Media giant NBCUniversal has announced the creation of a specialized business unit, Rock Studios. This division was created to deepen the connection between advertisers and the vast portfolio of sports and entertainment content managed by the company. It will primarily focus on integrated sponsorship, branded entertainment, and strategic product placement directly into content across TV and digital platforms.
The new structure aims to respond to changing market needs where traditional advertising is encountering its limits. The Rock Studios division will utilize a “fandom-first” approach, emphasizing the emotions and loyalty of fan bases. The goal is to create tailored solutions that include collaboration with talent, live events, and the use of social media to achieve maximum reach.
Creativity and Data as Core Pillars
At the forefront of the strategy is the effort to unify the creative component with modern technologies. According to the company's leadership, brands no longer have to choose between brand building and direct campaign performance. The potential of the new unit lies in combining iconic intellectual property with data analysis, which should help advertisers reach audiences at every stage of the purchasing process.
“Rock Studios is built for a new reality. It brings together best-in-class creativity, data, and technology into a unified offering that helps brands of all sizes own key moments,” said Karen Kovacs, President of Advertising and Partnerships at NBCUniversal.
Successful Integrations in Practice
NBCUniversal, part of the Comcast Corporation conglomerate, has previously tested similar collaboration models with its key brands. Recent projects include:
- Unilever's brand presence at BravoCon, which generated over 300 million interactions.
- Delta Airlines' campaign for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
- Citi's long-term concert series within The Today Show.
- The connection of the Coffee Mate brand with the reality show Love Island.
NBCUniversal manages a wide spectrum of media, including NBC News, NBC Sports, the Peacock streaming service, and Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation film studios. The new Rock Studios division aims to more effectively integrate these components into a single business entity that will compete with other players in the global entertainment field.
