Media giant Versant Media Group is acquiring technology company Full Swing. The transaction with Bruin Capital and other minority shareholders is valued at approximately $530 million. Versant Group, which already owns brands such as Golf Channel, GolfNow, and GolfPass in its portfolio, is strengthening its position in the sports technology segment with this move.
With the acquisition, Versant will gain access to an advanced interactive platform. It uses modern software for immersive simulations, virtual greens, and shot monitoring. Although the system was primarily developed for golf, it is currently expanding into baseball and other sports. For the new owner, this primarily means the ability to connect performance data with content and training processes for a wider audience.
A New Era of Connected Sport
According to Versant's management, this step reflects the transformation of the entire sports industry, which is increasingly digitizing. It allows the company to reach athletes and fans not only on television screens but also directly during training or home entertainment.
“Full Swing will bring a performance layer to our portfolio that will provide interactive products and accurate data to players everywhere – at home, on the range, and with coaches,” said Versant's President of Digital Platforms, Will McIntosh.
The acquisition includes the following technological infrastructure:
- Systems for immersive sports simulations.
- Advanced launch monitors and virtual greens.
- Integrated motion analysis software.
- Comprehensive database of athlete performance data.
Personnel Changes in Management
Upon completion of all formalities, Full Swing will be integrated into Versant Group's digital platforms and enterprises division. The current CEO of the technology company, Ryan Dotters, will remain in his position but will now report directly to Will McIntosh. According to Dotters, the merger with the media group will provide Full Swing technology with the necessary distribution capabilities for global growth.
Versant CEO Mark Lazarus added that the acquisition is part of a long-term strategy of investing in key markets. The company is betting on the trend of sports becoming more interactive and connected with technology, which Full Swing fulfills with its multi-sport platform.
