Schools in the Ústí Region are implementing a crisis system, warning students within seconds

The Ústí Region is investing over 8.5 million Czech crowns in modernizing security in its schools. The new calling system from O2 will enable principals to immediately inform thousands of people at once in crisis situations and coordinate rescue efforts. This responds to the need for faster communication during emergencies.

The Ústí Region has commenced the installation of the Crisis Information and Calling System (KISS) in its educational institutions. This new system, supplied by O2 Czech Republic, aims to radically accelerate the warning of students and staff in the event of a threat. The implementation of the system in the first seven schools was completed by April 15, 2026, with up to 50 school facilities expected to be connected by the end of the current academic year.

The technological solution is built on the operator's secure infrastructure and allows hundreds of people to be reached within seconds through a combination of SMS messages, voice calls, emails, push notifications in mobile applications, or direct messages on computer screens. Compared to existing methods, such as manual calling or mass emails, the system offers automation and significantly faster delivery of critical information.

Each school can customize the system to its own conditions. It includes predefined scenarios for various types of events – from fires and technical failures to critical situations such as the presence of an aggressive person on campus or the discovery of a suspicious object. Activation can be done from a mobile phone, computer, or a physical emergency button.

“The safety of students and staff in our schools is an absolute priority for us. We want principals and school staff to have a tool available in an emergency situation, where minutes matter, that will help them convey essential information within seconds,” said Richard Brabec, Governor of the Ústí Region.

The total value of the project reaches 8,584,601 Czech crowns including VAT. This amount covers not only the implementation itself but also personnel training, technical support, and system operation. The installation and practical user training are provided by the specialized company SAFETE. Furthermore, the system enables two-way communication, giving responsible persons immediate insight into who has confirmed the message and who has not responded.

“Thanks to two-way communication, schools have immediate insight into who received the message and how they reacted to it. This allows, for example, for a crisis team to be convened within minutes and to coordinate further actions,” explained Hynek Vála, O2 Product Manager.

The project is designed to be scalable, allowing for its future expansion, for example, by integrating with physical security elements (camera systems, remote door locking) or connecting to external emergency services. Similar solutions have already proven successful in the healthcare sector and in large industrial enterprises.
