Czechs approach planning summer holidays responsibly, but in the destination itself, their financial discipline often gives way to a desire for experiences. According to a recent survey by Ipsos for Twisto, 51% of Czechs continuously save for their vacation throughout the year, and almost half set a budget. However, the reality on the road is different – only 15% of respondents adhere to their initial financial plan.
Once people arrive at their destination, priorities shift. Approximately one-fifth of respondents stop monitoring prices when they want to treat themselves or when they are spending time with family. Only 20% of people stated that they strictly monitor their expenses under all circumstances. The main reasons for increased spending are experiences, excursions, and visits to restaurants.
Differences between generations and travel priorities
The survey showed that the approach to finances on holiday differs significantly by age. While 51% of young people aged 18 to 26 are willing to pay extra for experiences, among the age group over 54, it's less than a third. A similar trend is evident in gastronomy, where younger generations are significantly more willing to invest in quality food than older populations.
“The results show a relatively significant difference between how Czechs think about holidays before departure and how they behave on location. A holiday is not just a financial decision, but also an investment in time that people spend with family or friends,” states Jiří Brych from Twisto.
Prices are not the biggest scare for tourists
Despite debates about rising prices, high costs are not the main factor that would spoil a holiday for Czechs. According to the data, only 10% of respondents feel this. Tourists are much more concerned about factors they cannot directly influence:
- Bad weather (29%)
- Overcrowded tourist places (28%)
- Lack of peace and rest
30% of respondents identified time spent with loved ones as the most important aspect of an ideal holiday, and a quarter of respondents cited peace. The survey was conducted in June 2026 on a representative sample of 1,017 respondents via the Instant Research application.
