The television service MAGENTA TV, operated by T-Mobile, is commemorating ten years since its entry into the Czech market in May. The platform, which started in 2016 under the name T-Mobile TV as one of the first domestic OTT (over-the-top) services, has undergone a significant transformation over the decade from classic linear broadcasting to a comprehensive content platform. As of December 31, 2025, the service registered a total of 325,000 active customers.
Part of the anniversary celebrations is the launch of a special birthday channel in the Video Library. Titled Birthday Cinema, viewers will find it throughout May at position 19 in the electronic program guide (EPG). The programming of this channel focuses on film hits, including the Oscar-winning documentary Mr. Nobody vs. Putin.
“In ten years, MAGENTA TV has transformed from a television service primarily offering linear broadcasting into a platform that combines it with catch-up TV, a Video Library, and partner streaming services. While at launch it offered about 130 channels and 2 days of catch-up, today it has approximately 180 channels and the option to watch shows retrospectively for 7 days,” said Zdeněk Spurný, TV and Partner Development Manager at T-Mobile.
Available statistics show that the volume of content offered has increased more than fivefold compared to 2016. While approximately 6,500 hours of content were available daily at the beginning, viewers now have access to 34,000 hours of broadcasting every day. The average time users spent watching MAGENTA TV in the past year reached 3.5 hours per day.
In addition to traditional channels, the Video Library section is also growing in importance, where viewers choose specific titles from the catalog. According to the operator, this year's most successful titles include the Czech fairy tale Tři bratři (Three Brothers) and the exclusive new release Nuremberg. The current direction of the service focuses on curated content selection and integration with other global streaming platforms, with an emphasis on multi-platform availability across different device types.
