The Jihlava hip-hop scene is making its presence known again. The rapper performing under the name Pett Berris has introduced his new single titled Playlist. The track, accompanied by a music video that has made its way to the broadcast of the music TV station Óčko, responds to the phenomenon of information overload and the constant pressure to perform in the digital era.
In the lyrics of the song, the author addresses issues related to the influence of social networks and ubiquitous online communication. According to him, the song is not a direct criticism of technology, but rather a reflection on the need to find space for one's own peace.
“For a long time, various feelings and thoughts had been accumulating within me. One day, I realized that I find the greatest peace precisely when I get into a car or put on headphones. I turn on music and momentarily shut out the surrounding world,” the rapper described the circumstances of the new track’s creation.
Escape from the noise of the digital world
The single Playlist works with themes that are close to a generation growing up with smartphones in hand. Through the lyrics, Pett Berris tries to capture moments such as night drives through an empty city, which for him represent a form of escape from reality. In the past, the artist gained attention, for example, through a collaboration with the Jeseník group Pio Squad, which belongs to the legends of domestic hip-hop.
Although many regional artists, at a certain stage of their career, gravitate towards the centers of the music industry, Pett Berris remains loyal to his base. He wants to continue to associate his future with Jihlava and currently rejects moving to Prague or another larger city.
Key themes of the single Playlist
Reaction to information overload and accelerated pace of life.
The impact of social media on an individual's mental well-being.
Seeking calm and inner balance through listening to music.
Emphasis on regional roots and staying in the Vysočina regional capital.
The current music video for the song builds on atmospheric shots that correspond with the mood of the track. It was this visual execution that helped the rapper succeed on national television, confirming the increasing quality of audiovisual production by local creators in Vysočina.
