While social networks are full of glossy photos from luxury resorts, the reality of Czech holidays is, according to a new survey, much simpler. Only 17% of Czechs are influenced by content on Instagram or Facebook when planning their time off. This comes from data by Ipsos for the company Twisto, which focused on travel preferences across generations.
Most respondents primarily seek peace and relaxation with family or a partner while traveling. For the majority of respondents, the ideal holiday is not a chase for photogenic experiences, but an opportunity to slow down and spend time with loved ones. A greater influence of social networks was only observed among the youngest generation, up to 26 years old.
Young People Want Experiences, Older People Want Peace
The survey revealed significant differences in expectations based on age groups. While for young people aged 18 to 26, the priority is discovering new places (25% of respondents), for the 54 to 65 generation, quiet relaxation takes precedence, favored by 31% of those surveyed. The approach to finances is also different:
More than half of young people are willing to pay extra for trips and experiences.
41% of younger generations invest in quality gastronomy.
Almost a third of young people do not hesitate to pay more for better accommodation.
Older generations, on the other hand, more often stick to their original budget.
“Social networks create the impression that a perfect holiday is mainly about constant discovery. But our survey shows that for most Czechs, peace and time spent with loved ones are much more important,” says Jiří Brych, Head of Product at Twisto.
Prices Are Not the Main Problem
An interesting finding is what most often spoils a trip for Czechs. Although the topic of rising prices is dominant in public discourse, only 10% of respondents cited high prices as the main reason for a ruined holiday. Far more people are bothered by factors they cannot influence themselves.
The biggest “spoilers” of a good mood are bad weather (29%) and overcrowded tourist spots (28%). The survey thus confirms that for a Czech tourist, fulfilling personal expectations and the ability to “switch off” is key, regardless of how cheap or visually attractive the destination actually is.
