“Many people are familiar with the White Crayon public charity campaign. Just a few weeks after its conclusion, we want to show the public what the actual everyday support for blind and partially sighted people looks like. The Open House is an opportunity to look into their world, experience some situations firsthand, and gain insights directly from professionals as well as clients themselves,” says Irena Hořejší, Head of PR and Fundraising at SONS ČR.
The program will feature activities such as walking with a white cane, acoustic target shooting, demonstrations of aids for independent living, a tour of the training kitchen, and a computer classroom equipped with specialized technology for the blind. Visitors will also have the chance to explore the unique audiovisual Darkroom, where individuals after sight loss train for real-life situations. They can also learn about Braille instruction and navigation systems for orientation on the street or in public spaces.
The Open House is intended for the general public, students, educators, social workers, family members of people with visual impairments, and anyone interested in learning more about life without sight and the support services available today.
The event is jointly organized by the Czech Blind United (SONS ČR), Tyfloservis, o.p.s., and TyfloCentrum Prague, which provide support to blind and partially sighted people across various life situations. Visitors will have a unique opportunity to discover, in one place, a wide spectrum of services that help people with visual impairments lead independent and active lives.
