A working meeting between the leadership of the Czech Telecommunication Office (ČTÚ) and representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MPO) took place at the ČTÚ premises. The main agenda item was the coordination of procedures in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and the implementation of the European Digital Services Act (DSA). These legislative frameworks aim to enhance security and transparency in the online environment, which is one of the current priorities of the office.
Marek Ebert, Chairman of the ČTÚ Council, briefed the minister and his entourage on the current challenges facing the office in connection with rapidly evolving technologies. In addition to the technical aspects, the discussion focused on practical implications for end-users. “The priorities and challenges of the office lie primarily in the area of AI and the DSA regulation, i.e., in topics related to a safer and more transparent online environment,” Ebert said during the meeting. The office is now preparing for new competencies arising from European legislation.
Another key topic was consumer protection, which forms a long-term agenda for ČTÚ. Representatives of both institutions debated more effective tools for dispute resolution and better informing citizens about their rights in the telecommunications market. The aim is to ensure that consumers are not exposed to unfair practices and have easy access to relevant information about the services offered.
A significant part of the meeting was dedicated to the development of physical infrastructure. Participants evaluated the progress in covering so-called white spots, i.e., areas where existing connectivity is insufficient or completely absent. The strategic objective remains to make quality and high-speed connections available even in geographically less accessible locations. This step is crucial for the digital transformation of the Czech countryside and ensuring equal opportunities for residents and businesses regardless of their location.
At the end of the meeting, both parties confirmed that their common interest is to build a modern and accessible digital infrastructure. This is to serve as a fundamental pillar for the digital economy of the Czech Republic. Cooperation between MPO and ČTÚ is intended to ensure that technological development proceeds in a coordinated manner with an emphasis on cybersecurity and network stability.
