The Colours of Ostrava music festival, held in the industrial area of Dolní Vítkovice, successfully concluded its annual event. T-Mobile, the operator responsible for visitor connectivity, released detailed statistics on its network's utilization. Over the four festival days, the infrastructure served more than 40,000 customers of the Czech operator and another 4,800 visitors using international roaming.
Record Data Transfers and Stable Speeds
The total volume of data transferred in the area reached almost 29 TB. The network strain was evident from day one, when visitors downloaded 1.4 TB and uploaded 250 GB of data during the main concert. Despite extreme peaks, especially during the busiest Saturday, the network remained stable. Average speeds were around 232 Mbps for download and 38 Mbps for upload.
Coverage for the festival grounds and campsite was provided by a total of four transmitters. A specific role was played by the so-called compact micro-mobile unit, which served 31,000 unique SIM cards. An interesting fact is the energy efficiency of this device, which only required a single refill of its 500-liter diesel generator throughout the festival.
Ecological Footprint and Accompanying Program
In addition to the technical background, attention was also focused on sustainability and accompanying activities in the relaxation zones:
- Within the collection of old devices, 560 phones were handed over for ecological recycling in cooperation with the Remobil organization.
- The gaming zone with air hockey and interactive games was visited by approximately 3,000 fans.
- Accompanying aesthetic services, such as tattooing or braid styling, were utilized by 1,200 people.
"Some materials from selected phones can be reused, thus saving natural resources."
The Dolní Vítkovice location once again confirmed its position as one of the most demanding sites for temporary network coverage in the Czech Republic, with the growing consumption of mobile data for sharing experiences in real time remaining a significant trend.
