Montenegro's public broadcaster (RCG) has entered a new broadcasting era. The programs of the national government service are now available via DAB+ digital technology. This innovation initially covers the capital city area of Podgorica and represents the first step in the overall digitalization of radio signals in the country.
As part of the launched test operation, listeners can tune in to two main stations in digital quality. “Listeners will be able to hear the first program of Radio Crne Gore and Radio 98, the second program of the public broadcaster,” specified the director of Radio Crne Gore, Vuk Perović. According to him, this is a modern transmission system that is already more dominant in many European countries than the classic FM broadcasting listeners were used to.
The transition to DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting) technology brings several significant advantages to end-users. In addition to significantly higher sound quality and clarity, digital transmission ensures more stable signal reception without noise. The system also allows for the broadcast of additional multimedia information, which is displayed on receiver screens.
“Those who have digital receivers in their cars will be able to get various other useful data that will serve them while driving, as well as information related to the content they are currently listening to,” Perović stated.
The Radio and Television Broadcasting Center (RDC) participated in the technical implementation of the project. Representatives of both institutions agree that this is a significant technological advancement, thanks to which Montenegro is beginning to meet the standards of modern European media systems. In the future, digitalization is expected to enable the expansion of program offerings and the modernization of the entire radio broadcasting sector in the country.
